Gas and electricity meters are read four times a year by ESB Networks and Bord Gáis Networks. They then send us your meter reading so we can calculate your bill.

However as we bill you six times a year, for the remaining two bills we make an estimate based on your previous usage. To help improve the accuracy of this you can submit a meter reading yourself. To do this you will need your MPRN (or GPRN) and your meter reading.

Energy Online customers can submit meter readings through their online account. We will send a reminder when it’s time to provide a reading.

Firstly - here’s how to read your meter!

There are a few types of meters but they are generally read in the same way.

Simply read the numbers from left to right ignoring any numbers in red.

If you have a different sort of meter and you’re not sure how to take the reading, simply take a photo of the meter box and email it to us at HomeEnquiries@energia.ie putting your name and account number in the email

Here are the easiest ways for you to submit electricity and gas readings.

1.

Submit directly here on Energy Online. If you login to Energy Online when your meter reading window is open, you will see a clear prompt on screen, that will bring you directly to the meter reading screen. If your meter reading window is closed, go to ‘My Account’ and select ‘Meter Readings’ from the menu. Simply input your reading into the box provided and submit it to us. If you have a Day / Night Meter, make sure to enter the correct figure for each time period.

You can also submit a reading by text. Simply text your electricity meter reading directly to ESB Networks at 0879609223

Please send your reading in the format of your 11-digit MPRN followed by a space and then your meter reading - e.g. 10009998888 31480

If you have a smart electricity meter with good connectivity, you will not have to submit meter readings anymore, as they are sent automatically to ESB Networks.

You can submit gas readings directly to Gas Networks Ireland by calling 1800 427 732
